Position: Research Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical/Optical, Physics)
Immediate superior: CTO (subject to change on notice of the company)
Main responsibilities: The Research engineer has a strong background in electrical and mechanical design to serve as a design and research engineer on a number of R&D and production projects related to the design, production and characterization of the company fiber-optic devices.
Specific responsibilities:
- Participate in the electrical and mechanical design, installation and adjustment of customized equipment and devices for the fiber test and measurement setups and the glass fabrication section.
- Implement control systems and data acquisition software.
- Collaborate in the mechanical and electrical design, development, packaging and production of the company fiber devices.
- Elaborate and write the standards and procedures for the production and assembly of the company fiber devices.
- Collaborate with the management team to implement quality control procedures and ISO certification.
- Improve production processes and optimize the performance of equipment.
- Establish procedures to produce and/or collect all reports and documents to ensure production control, planning and monitoring.
- Define, schedule and establish normal and preventive maintenance of all equipment and tools used in the production of fiber devices and glass fabrication.
- Ensure calibration of equipment and other apparatus used for fiber test and measurement, fiber devices production, and glass fabrication.
- Management of technical people.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- B.S. degree (M.S. desired) in Electrical, or Mechanical, or Optical Engineering, or Physics with a focus in electro-mechanical modeling, design, and controls.
- Minimum two years (beyond degree) of relevant hands-on or laboratory experience in high-tech facility
- Demonstrated experience working with a variety of computer software applications, such as MS Office, NI LabView, 3D CAD, etc
- Optics experience desired (bulk optics, fiber optics, electro-optics, laser)
- Desired areas of expertise include: Matlab, Mathematica, Labview, C, C++, algorithm development, statistical design of experiments, practical experimental design and set-up, data processing, heat transfer, mechanical design, structures, Solidworks, COSMOS (or ANSYS), CNC.
- Voice opinions in a constructive manner, good verbal and written communication skills.
- Enthusiastic with the willingness to learn.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong team player but also able to work in a self-directed manner.
Due to the nature of our work in the government contract research area, U.S Citizenship or permanent resident status is a firm requirement.
