Position : Chief Materials Scientist / Mid-IR glass
Immediate superior: CTO
Summary: The Chief Materials Scientist in Mid-IR glass is a specialty glass expert and advocate. This key employee will bridge the gaps in responsibility between R&D and production. He/She will be responsible for the following aspects related to all of the company glasses fabrication.
Responsibilities and tasks:
- Ensure the viability, coordination and realization of the Mid-IR glass Program
- Lead the research and production strategy and effort for the Mid-IR glass
- Establish and manage the resources and budget for the Program
- Provide technical control and oversight of the Program
- Participate in long-term strategy and tactical plan
- Participate in management team meetings
- Dedicate to using internal research budget to develop better Mid-IR glasses to produce sellable fiber-optic products in reasonable timeframes
- Timely report on development progress or obstacles
- Establish early glass manufacturing operations and transition to production
- Contribute to the company knowledge about advances in related or competing technologies in the marketplace, as part of the technological due diligence
- Establish and manage key relationships with suppliers that have bearing on the quality, performance, and cost of the company’s glasses
- Mid-IR glass production cost optimization
- Mid-IR glass test & measurement
- Responsible to establish, implement and enforce employee’s safety program for handling chemicals and gases
- Management of technical people
- Understand product strengths and weaknesses
- Participate to scientific conferences, publish and present scientific articles
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in glass ceramics, materials science or equivalent
- Excellent knowledge of Mid-IR glass (chalcogenide) development and production
- Clear understanding of business issues, including an expressed concern for the bottom line
- Ability to motivate and manage people
- Confidence, and willingness to voice opinions in a constructive manner
- Team player
Due to the nature of our work in the government contract research area, U.S Citizenship or permanent resident status is a firm requirement.
